HHDU has represented clients in the software industry, including the video game industry, for many years. This legal representation has included the preparation of contracts relating to matters ranging from the development of software under work made for hire agreements and the licensing of software rights, including the end user licenses which accompany software and contracts involving music and sound, to the distribution of software including video games.
HHDU is not licensed to practice in foreign countries, but realizes that clients sometimes have international needs. In cooperation with international counsel, the firm has provided legal services to software clients in regard to the international protection of trademark rights.
HHDU understands the value in trademarks. The experience of the firm has included the prosecution of trademark applications, the maintenance of trademark registrations, and the prosecution of opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
HHDU has filed applications to register the copyrights in software code and the images related thereto with the United States Copyright Office. In addition, the firm has provided legal representation in connection with the enforcement and protection of copyright interests.
HHDU was counsel of record in two (2) federal district court lawsuits involving claims made against video game developers and distributors. In the lawsuits the firm provided legal representation in regard to constitutional law issues concerning the First Amendment and tort law.
